Sarasota YMCA Sharks Masters

Our Program

United States Masters Swimming (USMS) membership is required for entry into our program; you can register quickly and easily at the following link: USMS Online Registration Center. Be sure to designate SYSM as your team and print out a copy of your card. Cost is $33.00 per year ($28.00 if registering between September 1 and December 31). YMCA membership is not required. Monthly fee for non-Y members is $55.00 per month; $40.00 per month for Y members. There is a $5.00 drop-in fee for USMS registered swimmers who are not SYSM members and are practicing less than once per week. Practice times are as follows:

Mornings

MONDAY - FRIDAY - 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. - w/Head Coach Rick Walker
SATURDAY - 7:00 a.m. (Time varies due to local swim meets)

Evenings

MONDAY - Thursday - 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. - w/Coaches Bill Brenner / Laura Hamel

The early group (5:30 a.m.) is a very intense masters swim program. Competitive swimmers and triathletes are welcome. Afterwards (7:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.), Coach Walker is on the pool deck to coach the several different swim groups that practice during this time (see our Training page to find out more.) Come find one that fits you! You will improve much faster swimming with a group and whatever your goals are, it is more fun to swim with others. Of course there is always room for the solo swimmer as well. A variety of workouts are available or BYOW.

USMS has accepted our proposal and has chosen Sarasota as its new headquarters. We are honored and excited. View the press release.

USMS Community Search Project

As many of you know, US Masters Swimming is looking for a new home. Sarasota, along with 5 other cities across the country, is being considered. The Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County organized the USMS Community Search Project, which included members from the Sarasota Family YMCA, Sarasota County, City of Sarasota, local business professionals, and a few swimmers and coaches. The team put together a written proposal and a DVD presentation. The video can be viewed and/or downloaded below.
